Airservices Australia were pleased to be one of the host workplaces during the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) 2019 which saw students come from all over the country to participate in a 12-day intensive youth program in Brisbane, hosted by The University of Queensland.
Following a presentation on the important role that Air Traffic Control plays in keeping Australian skies safe, students were split into two groups and spent time in our new 360 degree simulator, Technical Operations Centre, and the Control Tower.
The National Youth Science Forum is a summer school program designed to give students entering Year 12 a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage continued studies in these fields.
Run by youth for youth, a number of students are selected each year to re-join the NYSF as Student Staff Leaders. Applications for NYSF 2020 Year 12 Program will open 1 March 2019.
The half-day program at the Brisbane Centre was summed up well by Caitlin one of the NYSF 2019 participants, “I really loved the visit today. The ability to see how airspace in Australia is managed really opened my eyes to the aviation industry.”
