Safe people, safe skies, safe always
Our commitment to a healthy, safe and secure environment for our people and customers

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to protecting the travelling public, our people, and the communities we serve by maintaining the highest standards of operational and workplace safety.

Our Safety Management System (SMS)
Our integrated safety framework

Our Safety Management System (SMS) is the foundation of how we deliver safe services and safe workplaces. It aligns with industry best practice and stringent national and international safety standards, and is to match the evolving needs of aviation and our people.

As our operational environments become increasingly sophisticated, our SMS continues to mature through evolving safety analytics and enhanced human performance insights. To support this, we are transitioning to more advanced digital safety systems, including ServiceNow IRM, to strengthen safety oversight and data integration.

Our SMS is underpinned by a Just and Learning Culture, encouraging our people to speak up, share insights, learn from occurrences, and take accountability in a supportive and transparent environment. This culture ensures early risk identification, fair decision-making and stronger organisational learning.

Our SMS is monitored by aviation safety and risk professionals who conduct trend analysis, occurrence monitoring, scheduled assurance activities and investigations. Valuable insights are shared internally through the Safety Liaison and Safety Promotions teams, and externally through our website and social media platforms.

Delivering safe services
Supporting people to perform safely

In safety-critical environments such as air traffic control and aviation rescue and fire fighting, our people make rapid, complex decisions under pressure, day and night, in all conditions. That is why we take a proactive and collaborative approach to wellbeing and embrace the principle that safety is not only the absence of harm, but the presence of wellbeing, growth, and capability.

  • Embedding SMS principles in our ways of working
  • Designing systems and environments that enhance human performance
  • Managing psychosocial risks through structured methodologies
  • Providing early intervention and recovery support via the Peer Assistance Network program, professional mental health and injury management services
  • Uplifting safety education, awareness and capability through tailored training in safety risk management, human factors, fitness for duty, and safety accountabilities

Together, these core activities enable our people to perform their roles safely and sustainably.
