Airservices marks National Reconciliation Week with Anita Heiss

Airservices Australia Brisbane staff were honoured to host well-known Indigenous author, academic and speaker Dr Anita Heiss as part of events to celebrate National Reconciliation Week.

In an entertaining and illuminating presentation, Dr Heiss spoke to staff about how it’s possible to both acknowledge difference and celebrate sameness between all people and cultures.

As a world leader in the aviation industry, Airservices recognises the unique status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Australians.

Many of our regional and remote services are situated in locations with large Indigenous populations, and it is in many of these areas that we are making a positive impact in supporting the local community.

Dr Heiss, a Wiradjuri woman, is a contemporary Australian author Indigenous Literacy Day Ambassador and Professor of Communications at UQ.

Airservices acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional owners and custodians of this country we call Australia.

We also acknowledge the special relationship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have with their traditional lands and waters, as well as their unique history and diverse culture, customs and circumstances.
