Airservices Australia has this week opened its latest round of recruitment for fit and capable residents from across Australia to join its ranks as airport fire fighters.

Airservices is seeking up to 48 aviation rescue fire fighters to join its service located at 26 of Australia’s busiest airports.

Aspiring fire fighters need to be extremely fit and strong to make the cut, with a passion for staying fit and helping others in a highly professional team, said Airservices Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Services Chief Fire Officer Glenn Wood.

“Our Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) is challenging to make sure we get the best of those who apply, and that the candidates can meet the physical demands of this exciting job.

“Being an aviation fire fighter is no ordinary job and comes with great benefits such as flexible hours, job security and the satisfaction that comes with keeping travellers safe every day.

“Many of our fire fighters will stay with Airservices for their entire working lives—we think it’s the best job in the world,” Chief Officer Wood added.

Applications will be open until 3pm AEST on Wednesday 11 April.

Successful applicants will undertake a 15-week training course in Melbourne, fully-paid, in either November 2018 or March 2019 before graduates take up a position at their fire station.
