Airservices Australia invites feedback on Sunshine Coast Airport Post Implementation Review improvement actions

Airservices Australia is today calling on the community and industry to provide feedback on the first actions of the Post Implementation Review (PIR) for airspace and flightpath changes implemented at Sunshine Coast Airport in 2020.

Online engagement sessions will be held on 26 and 27 November. Booking are essential via here.

The PIR, which was completed in October 2023, identified five recommendations, each with several individual actions. The full list can be accessed here.

The recommendations aim to reduce the impact of aircraft operations on the wider Sunshine Coast community and to provide improved information to communities about aircraft operations.

This first round of community engagement will address the following recommendations:

Recommendation 1: Improve information sharing with the community.

Recommendation 3: Investigate feasible Noise Action Plan improvements.

Recommendation 5: Investigate the potential for a noise monitoring program, either permanent or temporary, to provide information on aircraft noise levels to Sunshine Coast communities.

The remaining recommendations 2 and 4 are for potential flightpath changes, which Airservices may progress once the Noise Action Plan for Brisbane Package 3 and 4 outcomes are known, due to the overlap in airspace operations.

The PIR was conducted to review the outcomes resulting from changes to Sunshine Coast’s airspace and flightpaths, due to the change of runway orientation at Sunshine Coast Airport in June 2020.

Information and interactive maps are available via Engage Airservices here.

“The Sunshine Coast community now has the opportunity to help shape our future reporting, noise monitoring and noise abatement procedures for the region,” said Donna Marshall, Airservices Australia’s Head of Community Engagement.

“Airservices values the community’s contributions to our future planning and decision making on minimising noise impacts as far as practicable.

“We are also committed to boosting our information sharing on aircraft operations, so the community has easy access to timely information.”
