Frequently asked questions

FAQs related to submission of this form are provided below – for additional information on applying for an Australian Noise Certificate or Permit to Operate without a Noise Certificate, view the FAQs on the aircraft noise regulations here.

What is my aircrafts ICAO code?
You can look up your aircrafts ICAO code here: https://www.icao.int/publications/DOC8643/Pages/Search.aspx.

As the ICAO Code is a mandatory field in the above form, if your aircraft doesnt have an ICAO code, normally aircraft which arent mass produced including amateur built aircraft, please insert a dash (-) in this field to enable submission.

Do I need to provide propeller details?
If you have a propeller aircraft, please provide full propeller details. This form is for rotor, propeller and jet aircraft so we are unable to make the propeller details a mandatory field, but we will need these details for issuing an Australian Noise Certificate or permit, to a propeller aircraft.

Do I need an aircraft noise test?
Generally, no.

  • If you are applying for an Australian Noise Certificate, your aircraft likely holds international noise certification which we will base our decision to issue an Australian Noise Certificate off.
  • If you are applying for a permit, we use your performance data to estimate the aircrafts noise levels.

Details on when aircraft noise testing may be required is provided on the Aircraft Noise Regulations page

How do I know if my application has been submitted successfully?
If your application has been submitted, you will be taken to a new webpage with a submission confirmation message.

You will also receive an automated response by email, generally within 5 minutes of submission. This email will include details of additional evidence that needs to be submitted, before your application can be assessed. Please provide the requested evidence by return email.

Why wont my form submit?
If your form didnt submit – this is most likely due to one of two things:

  • Your aircrafts serial number may be too long. If you have a long serial number, such as including the model type and manufacture year – please only include the unique component in the serial number field (normally the final set of numbers) and then provide the full serial number under "Additional Comments".
  • There are mandatory form fields identified by an asterisk (*). Check whether you have completed all mandatory fields including specifying the unit (kg/lb) for both the MTOW and MLOW.
