Media Release - Focus on regional and general aviation safety at Avalon 2009 - 01/09
Airservices Australia will hold a series of safety awareness sessions specially tailored for the regional and general aviation community at Avalon 2009.
Airline and recreational pilots are invited to attend one or more of the nine sessions to be held during the trade-only opening three days of the airshow. The sessions will cover critical safety issues facing the industry and include open forum discussions.
Topics include safe in-flight operations and how to avoid runway incursions and violations of controlled airspace. The discussions will include case studies focussing on the impacts of non-standard procedures on safety and the air traffic management system.
Experienced safety management and air traffic control experts will provide hints and tips to enhance safety outcomes for regional and general aviation operations, while Airservices aviation rescue fire fighters will showcase their capability and airside services.
Following requests from industry, one session will be devoted to discussing in-flight emergencies from an air traffic control perspective. Another will focus on enhancing pilot and air traffic control interaction by addressing and identifying barriers to effective communication.
Attendance at each of the nine sessions is limited. Those interested are urged to pre-register at the Airservices Careers and Skills stand in Exhibition Hall A at Avalon 2009.
Sessions will be run at 9.10am, 10.00am and 10.50am daily in Airservices corporate chalet on the flight line. For full details of the session program, refer to the Airservices website at www.airservicesaustralia.com
