Media Release - Aviation fire fighters challenge air travellers to dig deep on Good Friday - 10/09

Airservices Australia aviation rescue fire fighters are encouraging travellers and visitors to Melbourne Airport to dig deep in support of this year's Good Friday appeal.

The fire fighters will be on hand at the airport’s main passenger terminal on Thursday evening and Good Friday to collect funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital’s appeal.

This is the 17th year that that fire-fighters, mechanics, family and friends have collected funds at the airport on Good Friday. They will be rattling appeal tins and giving away more than 7000 Easter eggs provided by Cadbury Schweppes.

Also on display in front of the Melbourne Airport terminal will be two fire fighting and rescue trucks used by Airservices to keep the flying public safe.

Airservices spokesman Rob Walker encouraged travellers to contribute to help the kids, inspect a fire truck and stop for a chat with a firie if their travel schedule permitted.

"It's a great way we can support the community and provide an opportunity for those travellers who may not get another chance to donate on Good Friday to support the appeal.

"Many of our fire fighters and other staff have been involved with the appeal for many years and we’re very pleased to support the vital work of the Royal Children’s Hospital," Mr Walker said.

Airservices fire fighters have raised more than $135,000 for the hospital in 16 years of Good Friday fundraising at Melbourne airport.

The organisation's Melbourne-based air traffic controllers, technical and corporate staff are also supporting the fundraising effort.
