Australian ATM Strategic Plan

ASTRA, the Australian Strategic Air Traffic Management Group, is Australia's whole of industry Air Traffic Management (ATM) planning body. ASTRA includes Airlines, Airports, Regional Aviation, Pilots, GA and various government organisations.
A key achievement of the group has been the development of the Australian ATM Strategic Plan, the key strategy of which is to deliver User Preferred Trajectories.
The transition towards UPTs will occur in 5 phases, with Flex Tracks being delivered internationally in Phase 2.
The other phases include:
Phase 1: Tasman User Preferred Routes (Currently deferred)
Phase 2: International Flex Tracks
Phase 3: International User Preferred Routes
Phase 4: Domestic User Preferred Routes
Phase 5: Transition to User Preferred Trajectories
Other key initiatives identified in the Australian ATM Strategic Plan contributing to enhanced air traffic management capabilities include:
- flexible use airspace
- demand and capacity balancing
- performance management reporting
- decision information network.
Airservices Australia will soon deliver Flex Tracks internationally across Australian airspace through the Australian Organised Track Structure (AUSOTS).
