Parafield airport was established in 1927. The Control Tower building was constructed in 1940. A new control tower cabin was 1981. Parafield served as the primary airport for Adelaide until 1955 when West Beach airport was opened for airline operations.
Parafield Airport is situated approximately 16 km north of Adelaide city on the Adelaide Plains. Parafield Control Zone is between the Adelaide Control Zone to the South and Edinburgh Military Control Zone to the North.
Aviation activity at Parafield is now primarily flying training and private flying in aircraft not greater than 5700kg. Parafield has 4 sealed runways, 03/21 left and right and 08/26 left and right. Runway lights are available on runway 21 right only. Controllers process flights utilising General Aviation Airport Procedures.
Facilities
Parafield Airport has two sets of parallel runways, which are 21R/03L (1350M), 21L/03R (1279M) and 26R/08L (958M), 26L/08R (992M). An NDB is located on the SW corner of the field.
