Alice Springs sees yearly movements of around 33,000 aircraft. Located 15 km north of the township of Alice Springs, views from the tower extend to the Macdonnell Ranges to the North and the Brewer plains to the South.

Amongst general aviation and commercial aircraft, balloons operate in the control zone most mornings during winter and weekly USAF C-141 Starlifter or C-17 Globemaster service for the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap located approx 15kms SW of the airport.

Facilities

The runways are 12/30, 06/24 and 17/35. Runway 06/24 is half bitumen/half gravel. The other runways are full bitumen. An ILS approach is installed on Runway 12. Other instrument approaches utilise DME, VOR and GPS.
